Among all international regatta events the America’s Cup is considered one of the toughest and of high quality.
It definitely helps build competitive skills among sailors and hone them for other international level tournaments. Even though mostly experienced and veteran champions are skippers of boats of this series, there are young sailors who are brought on to be part of the team as well. With the finals coming up in summer, the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup title is a battle that brings in the best top young sailors across the world.
The Youth Cup has sports directors who have finalized twelve teams with sailors ranging in age from 19 to 25. They have been invited to participate in the Youth America’s Cup in Bermuda. The directors, Hans Peter Steinacher and Roman Hagara being legendary Olympic champions have introduced this sailing tournament that will help identify young talent and nurture the same for future competitive sailing events.
The Red Bull Youth America’s Cup event in 2017 will have AC45 catamarans of the foiling design for the first time. The same boats would be used in the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup. Hence, in both tournament fans can expect to find breath taking action with such boats being sailed in close competition. Many admit that the start of the youth based tournament has added a new facet to the America’s Cup. With a younger generation competing in similar boats and similar race courses at the premier event, there is more action and variety included by the organization. For the Red Bull tournament there were trials conducted across the world. The younger teams will now compete alongside with the six teams participating in the Louis Vuitton Cup tournament. Oracle team of US is the main defender of the Cup and will mentor the younger teams.
